CCTV CNY show and news

One really understands why it's the highest rated show of the year. I think CCTV has done amazingly well in creating an annual spectacle. Except for the talk show part, most are intriguing entertainment. Anyways, way better than the silly show on TVB. So I think ATV has done nothing wrong in airing the CCTV CNY show (although I suspect I am among the few in HK)

I also watched the CCTV1 news on CNY day. That's amazing, but in a different way. It's fascinating to see how the propaganda machine sustains since the Cultural Revolution. There is no bad news at all. It showed celebrations of the different ethnicities in China. It showed how the militaries (incl those off to fight the pirates) say their new greetings to the people in the country. How the government sent money and support to those in needs in far away regions. And how the Sichuan survivors received support from the government. So, if that's all you get to watch, how does one form its view of the world (its country, its government)? But why is that a problem, when there is nothing to compare against?
