Apparently as a tradition, each American president rent art of their own choice to decorate the White House. There was a rule - the work ought to be from artists that have been deceased 20 years ago. But Clinton (or Mrs Clinton, apparently) broke that rule by hanging a de Kooning. Unsurprisingly, Bush went for Western cowboy themed works. Read that Obama is going for American 60s Pop Art: Robert Rauscheunberg's "combining painting", Ed Ruscha, and Jasper Johns' "White Flags" American flag series. Critics said that 60s Pop Art has a theme of "art for the common people", which echos with Obama's philsophy. The art community is totally flattened, saying that Obama has "impeccable taste". The man can do no wrong at this stage, even when it comes to art!
