Art Journal #53: Sun Yuan & Peng Yu @ Osage KT

Good show - loved the work by Sun Yuan and Peng Yu called "Hong Kong Intervention". Its 100 pairs of photos, one is backside of a domestic helper, the other is her place of work (her "home") with a toy grenade stealthily placed in it, as instructed by the artists.

It's a great observation of a key social "abnormaly" of HK - Filipino helpers, the unsung but faceless heros of HK middle-class; tension between them and their employers at home (shown by the bomb placed in an empty home). Looking at the empty homes, all with different decors, but each with the same fake grenade, much is left to your imagination.

This work will be showed in Sydney Biennale. Was hoping I can pick up a pair - but they are only sold as one set of 100 pairs!!!
