Niigata Echigo Tsumari Art Triennial (not the art part)

While its fun to go to "the countryside" (what Niigata is to me), getting there is definitely not easy. First it's 2 hours of JR to Niigata that cost Yen 13,000. We thought we'd be able to rent a car last minute once we got there, but our hope was dashed before we even arrived, when we saw the swamp of tourists getting on the train. Indeed, no cars, all out.

So we were left to the horror of taking public transport. Which honestly didnt turn out as bad as I thought. Yes we didnt get to go to all the sites that we meticulously planned the night before, and there's a lot more walking at 35C (must be around that temperature), but there's also no getting lost looking for sites. So it netted out.

But the overall organization was not great. The numbering of artworks in the catalog, the website and the map are all different. It's totally confusing. They need some help next year (3 years from now)....

Rice was fantastic though (as Niigata was known for it) - maybe its just in my mind - but the bowl of rice I had at night at the riyokan was amazing! Very "rice-y" taste!
