Art Journal #64: Xu Bing Project Forest, BYOB

Fantastic to see it live. Xu Bing were great, and he's really into it and love this project. Kids' work were delightful.

We have an amazing setting and backdrop with the postcard view of HK skyline, right off the tip of West Kowloon; this is probably the best classroom setting ever for Project Forest! 40 kids turned up, with 10 volunteer teachers who will carry it forward in the next 17 classes over the next 2-3 months.

Having known this project from the beginning, and seen the works from the Kenya leg, I was delightfully surprised at how I like the outcome of the HK session and the creativity of the kids!

It was a crazy 24 hours - I landed from Seoul at 6pm on Friday, sat into the first interview Xu Bing had with TimeOut HK at 7pm at W Hotel, then went to a 3 hour welcome dinner at Press Room. Then a 830am Saturday bfast to discuss the Project Forest catalog, then 3 more interviews with Tatler, U Mag, etc. (I also dubbed as translator for Xu Bing's Tatler interview - its tough to translate conceptual art concepts!) Then mad rush to lunch at Peninsula, followed by the actual "class" from 2-4pm!

So glad it turned out extremely well!
