Very disappointing event. The idea was interesting - to open up the old police quarters in SOHO, HK to the public, and invite artists and galleries to create and display works that reflect the history of the place. The exhibition started with a description of the building's architecture history/background, with reference to the line of Le Corbusier's 1930s thinking (eg, sky street) and how that took roots and evolved in many HK buildings. Followed by a poorly put together model and pieces of ceramic digged up from the old site of the police quarter which used to be Sun Yat Sen's school (but with virtually no explanation to the display). In one side of the building, there's a few artists work - but none interesting. On the second floor, there are galleries invited to display works. Overall, it's depressing to think that this is what the HK Govt think a cultural event is. The hardware is there - the history, the asestics, etc. But there's so little thinking put into this (ie, the software), and incredibly limited marketing (I hardly know of the event). Hope that WKCD wont be like this...
