What I find "touching" is that there's such a huge turnout. It's a Saturday, granted, but still, the large number of young people turning out to attend an exhibition tells you how much more "penetrated" is art into people's life and routine in Japan. Art is not sth remote and far...it's in everyday life. Japan also have a unique positioning in the world of media art - which they define as art (as in mostly comtemporary art), animation, games, and entertainment. Very interesting and broad definition, and that's what made it interesting. Japan certainly have a strong history in animation, games, entertainment...and why arent they art, indeed? In terms of what I like, I love the "fishing game" (you simply use your mobile to take a photo of the ID, which connects you to the web, and then you can use your mobile as a fishing rod to "fish" in the digital pond which is a projection from a projector onto the ground)...and the iPhone controlled DJ station...plus a few of the animations (which was very touching!). Loved the exhibition, it was at National Art Center Tokyo, I am certainly glad I didnt gave up attending for more shopping!! ;>
