Inakaya (and Tokyo?!) is dead!!!

Sunday night. After a full day of outing at Niigata, honestly was quite tired. Was thinking if we should just do a quick meal and go home. But Inakaya was tempting. So there we go. When we sat down at 9pm, it was already quiet - more than any other time I went. There were 4 other customers in addition to us. In 15mins time, everyone left, we were all alone!

It's a bit awkward. Since even in sushi bars, the chef will walk around a bit when there's no customers. But at Inakaya, there's none of that - the 2 chefs sat with their legs folded right there, they were "part of the show" at the place!! Silence when we dont chatted them up, and honestly they probably felt they'd intruded too much if they kept starting a conversation with us.

So, while the food was great, and we enjoyed ourselves, there were plenty of awkward silent moments - esp in constrast with the shouting that went on at Inakaya usually!!!!

Ginza as a financial district can be understandably quite dead on Sundays. But then, 9pm, no customers on Sunday! That's the sign of a weak economy - and extremely high Yen - so high that my head starts to spin...FX is at 8.5HKD/100Yen this time - highest I have seen ever in my living memory....my first time to Japan was in 1986 or 87, FX was 3.3HKD/100Yen....
