Art journal #83: HK Art Fair 2010

I wouldnt be the first to talk about the art fair, so will keep it really short.

It has a great turnout, amazing parties, and tons of satellite events. The Kwan Sheung Chi's performance outside the main hall was a delight! Its fantastic to see how far HK has come (and what a terrific job Magnus has done) in just 3 years.

Problem is, too many visitors doesnt necessarily do business good? I did read about good sales, and many of the major pieces (incl the gigantic Nara, many of the Liu Ye's, Hirst's and Murakami's) were sold. But with the crowd and the resulting unpleasant "shopping" environment, wont that hurt sales? Shouldnt there be a close-off (say 630-830pm every night, not just on the opening night) for just the VIPs? Cant imagine the real buyers being too happy about crowds...but then, Art Basel is really crowded too, I guess...
