Thoroughly disappointing. I like the ash painting series (I know many said its too decorative and there's too much made-up meaning), but these new works at Pace is so just badly done. Again I have nothing against an artist not "hand-making" his own works. For me, contemporary art is not about craftsmanship. But these were simply badly made!

Art journal #89: Zhang Huan at Pace BJ
Thoroughly disappointing. I like the ash painting series (I know many said its too decorative and there's too much made-up meaning), but these new works at Pace is so just badly done. Again I have nothing against an artist not "hand-making" his own works. For me, contemporary art is not about craftsmanship. But these were simply badly made!
