Art journal #145: Picasso and Modern British Art @ Tate Britain

A Picasso show that wasnt boring! Almost passed on this as I was so rushed, and Picasso in general is so overexposed. But the exhibition focused on how Picasso influenced British artists like Moore, Bacon, and Hockney which makes it interesting!

With Henry Moore, Picasso and him both shared a passion and drew inspiration from African/primitive images, notably in their sculptures. With Francis Bacon, he evolved the distorted figures of Picasso, in particular the mouth/teeth, and took it to a deeper darker reflection of self. With Hockney, the tributes to Picasso were even more obvious, from his theatre design repeating Picasso's Chinese Conjuror images in London 1919, and his circus themed paintings.

Working with the same works in the Tate collection, they make sth that could fall totally flat interesting!
