Art Journal #5, Pace Wildenstein, NY

(Oct 31, 2008) Glad to have the chance to slip out for an hour and rush my way to Pace NY while in town. It's afterall one of the most influential galleries. It's hidden in Chelsea, there's a line of galleries around it (probably catching the spillover a bit), and it's a nice big space. I went not just for Pace, but also to see the first Zhang Xiaogang solo there. It's mostly his new oil work, plus a few photos with scribbing on them (which I do like). Of course everything is sold out or reserved - at least the list at the reception said so. Maybe that's how to position it in any case. Everything is at least "reserved". Well, actually except for the largest 300cm wide oil which sells for a cool US$1.5m, that's not "sold". Anyways the gallery director was actually nice enough to come greet, and we spoke for a while - which honestly I was surprised; would have thought they are totally snotty! Got a copy of the catalog (Revision - since according to ZXG, we all "revised" our memories, it's not 100% historical account). All in all, not the most interesting works, but glad to have been there
