Art journal #6 Xu Bing's Studio

(Nov 1, 2008) Went to Xu Bing's Studio in NY! So excited. It's in Brooklyn just off Williamsburg. Above a bookstore. He's been there since maybe 2004. What you expect of an artist studio (and certainly of Xu Bing) - stacks of books, catalogs laying around, crates with installation works inside ready to go to museum shows. Saw the bird cage "made with" characters. And his sketchbook in his Nepal trip where he started his landscript painting - which I think is fascinating, and truly an important record of the beginning of a new series of work for Xu Bing. Discussed how to take forward the Book From The Ground - quite tough, it's a technical problem that's beyond me. That said I have many "commercial" ideas - well but that have to wait til there's a "working product"
