I'd call it a quintessential NY experience. I wont have the chance to see sth like this in HK or much of Asia.
It was a performance by Keith Hennessy, which combined dance, performance, and stand-up (!) in some ways. He was funny and enigmatic. I cannot quite describe it is - except that I have never seen anything like this before. He will engage audience in a dialog, play tarot, invite people to do "mic background music", ask people to record the show by passing around a camera and take pictures "until they are bored, afterwhich they can pass the camera on to someone else", roll around on stage on a platform, dance, scream, and change into outrageous costumes.
He was connected with himself, and with his body, sound, lighting, props, expressed himself to show the audience. Very interesting, and so glad that I made it to New Museum on the curator's invitation! (Also love the show that's on, called "Skin Fruit", with Jeff Koons curating and selecting from the Dakis Joannou Collection, which has some really really great work!)
