Art journal #107: Eadweard Muybridge @ Tate Britain

Have seen these images of galloping horses and running men many times before (most recently in SH at RAM, used by a Taiwan artist Tu Wei-Cheng in his work), so I am glad I finally got to know whos the artist/photographer.

Muybridge created techniques that allow us to 'see' motions that we only felt before. His own personal story (shooting the man that cheated with his wife, and then getting acquitted by the jury) and the controversy from using nudes in his photos add a twist of mystery/legend to it. Its interesting to think what we take for granted so much now - seeing motions frame by frame - was a breakthrough not that long time ago!

Again reconfirming my verdict from the last London visit - Tate Britain actually does better shows than Tate Modern recently! Felt Tate Modern just 'reuse' its collection too much, and too many of these shows were introductory in nature and not deep nor interesting enough.
