Art Journal #18: Dinner @ Osage, "Some Rooms"

Enjoyable event, hosted by the lovely Agnes Lin. The "Some Rooms" show was good too - though I didnt quite get to see the video works properly - seem so many people rushing in and out. Amazing turnout at the show (must be 200+). We really need places like Osage to bring sth different to HK! I have always find SEAsia art interesting (and Japanese too) - but not quite ready to add that to my collection range yet which I will try to limit to Chn/HK for now. Got proper curatorial introduction to a Thai artist work which IS the white room (the "work", if you insist on seeing sth physical, is a fake banknote carried by the staff which you have to ask for in order to see it; the work is named "demonstration", and apparently during Thaskin's last days in office, there were fake banknotes going around in Thailand...and the non-credit card carrying part of the population - ie, the underprivileged crowd - found themselves in possession of these fake banknotes). Another work is this "morphing" fruits - changing either shape or skin one at a time - which is a reflection of the avatar culture. The dinner following was at the Osage office, out in the terrace. (BTW saw some of Wilson Shieh's new work there, interesting and more impact than looking at it on the small poster/website!) It was the perfect weather to sit outside last night. We tempered with rain...but luckily just for a very brief while, then it passed. Had some good conversations with Magnus (HK Art Fair mastermind), Eva (curator from KL), and Chow Chun Fai. Great event! Glad that my conf call didnt happen...otherwise I had to cut it short
