A look into my fav and close-to-town Shek O quickly proved the market has shot through the roof - a village house (not an Ocean mansion by any means!) 1600sqft asks for HK$30m (its probably got tons of illegal fittings in it as well, given the new HK rule). Was in Sai Kung a few weeks ago also; I am sure there are many choices, esp enroute to MacLehose Route and away from town, but I just havent got round to it.
Went to check out Lantau after A's recomm, I totally buy the "quality of life" argument and thinks it'd be fun to have a get-away place there. Was excited to see little charming houses in Chang Sa, only to find out that the one standing on the beach (500 sqft each fl, 2 fl, ground fl not incl; no deco at all) was sold, two years ago, for HK$11.8m. Thats totally city center prices! Golden Coast up north (away from the beach) has your classic suburb townhouse; 1600sqft ones go for HK$13.8m.
Perhaps, the most realistic option is to wait for next property cycle (3-4 years away?!); or simply go stay a weekend at Silvermine Beach Hotel - a nostalgic looking SE Asian-looking resort with its rundown charms near Mui Wo, looks more like a place from Burma or Laos than HK. For now, thats the better bet.

It's indeed a very nice holiday home. For holiday owners in UK out there, I think it would be a good idea to sign in for Holiday Letting Agreement today.
